October 16th, 17th, and 18th, 2009- The weekend was really better than we even expected. People showed up at the last minute that never said they were coming. I (Debbie Shelor) had a great time. Everyone I've talked to said they had a great time. And the people who thought about coming and then didn't for whatever reason say they wish they had. We've had several requests that the next one be in 5 years, not 10. So I'd say overall it was a great success.

How it all began: I saw a few people at the 10-year reunion. But other than that, I kept in touch with no-one until about a year ago when I joined classmates.com. Suzen (Paisley) Flinchum sent me a message on classmates asking if anyone was doing a reunion. Somehow I ended up on facebook and we all just started finding each other on there. Sometime - I think around October - I was live chatting on Facebook with Wayne Frye and we started talking about a reunion. We just decided to do it ourselves. Suzen came on board. I convinced her to chair the thing since I couldn't hold meetings living out in Santa Fe, NM. I didn't know then that I'd be moving back to Radford - something I never ever imagined doing. Quickly Brad Harvey and Joe Abercrombie got on board and we had our "team." We were blessed to have Suzen's event planning expertise. (She does it professionally). It took us about a year to find everyone we were able to find.

Visit the Photos page to see what happened!

Volunteers Needed:

Want to get involved with the next reunion? It's not too early to get started. We heard that many of you want to have the next one in 5, not 10. I've agreed to keep the database updated with current contact information and host this website, but the rest is now up to someone else.

Your Contact Information:

We need to have your contact details. We are trying to keep up with folks so its not so hard to find everyone next time around. Please use this form if we don't yet have your information or if your information has changed. Ignore the questions about attending the reunion - we'll use them again next time. Your information will not be shared (except with your classmates and only if you say it's O. K.).

Your 30-Year Reunion Committee:

Suzen (Paisley) Flinchum, Brad Harvey, Wayne Frye, Joe Abercrombie, & Debbie Shelor

.

Facebook:

Over 50 of your classmates - plus many more from the classes of 78 and 80 are active on Facebook. Visit www.facebook.com and set up an account. Be sure to include that you went to Radford High School, Radford Virginia (there is another one in Hawaii) in your profile. While in there, search for RHS 79 Reunion and join the group. One of the most fun things about Facebook, besides the games and quizes, is the sharing of photos.

Classmates:

Many of your classmates have profiles on www.Classmates.com. We have found that it is not utilized by most and is much less interactive than Facebook. But, you may find someone on there that you aren't finding anywhere else. Over 60 of your classmates have classmates.com profiles.
